1 Purpose
This Marine Notice describes the ISM and ISPS Auditor Training Course offered by Novaveritas Maritime Division (NVMD), aimed at developing qualified internal and external auditors for SMS and ship security system verification.
2 Course Overview
The NVMD ISM·ISPS Auditor Training Course is designed for maritime professionals who need to develop competency in planning, executing, reporting, and following up on ISM Code Safety Management System audits and ISPS Code Ship Security Plan audits. The course covers both the theoretical framework and practical auditing techniques.
Designated Person Ashore (DPA), Ship Security Officers (SSO), Company Security Officers (CSO), fleet managers, quality assurance personnel, and maritime professionals seeking auditor qualifications under ISM/ISPS.

4 Entry Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of maritime industry experience (sea-going or shore-based)
- Familiarity with the ISM Code and/or ISPS Code
- Working proficiency in English (course language)
5 Certification
Participants who successfully complete the course and pass the written assessment receive an NVMD Certificate of Completion for ISM·ISPS Auditor Training. The certificate records the participant's name, training dates, and modules completed, and may be used to support applications for auditor authorization by flag state administrations or company SMS authorities.
