Statutory Inspections on behalf of Maritime Administrations

1 Purpose

This Marine Notice describes the scope and conditions under which Novaveritas Maritime Division (NVMD) performs statutory surveys and inspections on behalf of flag state maritime administrations, and issues the corresponding international statutory certificates.

2 Authorization Framework

NVMD acts as a Recognized Organization (RO) under formal delegation agreements with flag state administrations. These agreements define the specific surveys, certificates, and ship types for which NVMD is authorized to act. NVMD operates in accordance with:

4 Limitations

Scope Limitation

NVMD may only perform surveys and issue certificates within the scope explicitly authorized by each flag administration. Owners and operators must confirm NVMD's authorization for the specific flag state and certificate type prior to scheduling surveys.

5 Survey Reporting to the Flag Administration

All statutory surveys carried out by NVMD are reported to the respective flag state administration in accordance with the terms of the delegation agreement. The flag administration retains full sovereign authority over its register and may override, amend, or revoke any action taken by NVMD on its behalf.
