1 Purpose
This Marine Notice establishes the policy, format, and procedures governing the issuance, distribution, amendment, and cancellation of Marine Notices (MN) by Novaveritas Maritime Division (NVMD). All Marine Notices issued by NVMD constitute official communications to shipowners, operators, masters, seafarers, and other maritime stakeholders within the scope of NVMD's authority.
2 Authority & Legal Basis
NVMD issues Marine Notices pursuant to its role as a Recognized Organization (RO) operating under delegation agreements with flag state administrations. The authority to issue guidance notices is grounded in:
- IMO Resolution A.739(18) — Guidelines for the Authorization of Organizations Acting on Behalf of the Administration
- IMO Resolution A.789(19) — Specifications on the Survey and Certification Functions of Recognized Organizations
- SOLAS Chapter I, Regulation 6 — Inspection and Survey
- Individual Delegation Agreements between NVMD and respective flag state administrations
3 Classification of Marine Notices

4 Numbering System
Each Marine Notice is assigned a unique identifier following the format:
NVMN-XXX — where NV = Novaveritas, MN = Marine Notice, XXX = sequential three-digit number.
Revised versions of an existing notice supersede the previous version entirely. The revision status and date are clearly indicated in the notice header.
5 Distribution & Access
All Marine Notices are publicly available at https://maritime.novaveritas.org/marine_notices. Stakeholders are responsible for ensuring they hold the most current revision. NVMD does not assume responsibility for actions taken based on superseded notices.
Marine Notices do not replace the full text of applicable international conventions, codes, or flag state legislation. Users must consult primary sources for complete regulatory requirements.
